Amazing and Unique Waffles

Tired of the usual classic waffles with maple syrup and cream? Why not divert from the typical and try other tasty and exciting waffles? Waffles are great on their most basic state, but trying out some unique waffles would widen up your exquisite taste spectrum. Make your waffle maker work wonders with these amazing and unique waffles to try:

Mac and Cheese Waffles

Combine your two favorite comfort foods: waffles and mac and cheese and smash them together in one delightful dish. It’s carbs on carbs, but who cares, right?

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups waffle mix or baking mix
  • 1 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 lb. macaroni pasta, cooked
  • 18 oz. soft American cheese
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese (for garnishing)

Procedure:

  1. Preheat waffle iron.
  2. Combine waffle mix, milk, egg and vegetable oil. Spoon mixture into waffle iron and cook until golden brown.
  3. In a large saucepan, heat cheese and whipping cream together until smooth. Pour it over cooked macaroni pasta.
  4. Grease waffle maker with cooking spray. Spoon heaps of mac and cheese between waffles. Top it with grated cheddar cheese. Serve.

 

Pesto and Parmesan Waffles

Add a savory spin on your usual waffles by adding your favorite pasta companions, pesto and parmesan. These go right in the batter, and then you top it with egg. Perfect for breakfast or dinner!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups waffle mix
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons basil pesto
  • Eggs as toppings

Procedure:

  1. Preheat waffle iron.
  2. Mix together waffle mix, milk, an egg, and vegetable oil until combined. Fold in pesto and cheese.
  3. Grease waffle maker with a cooking spray. Pour batter into the waffle maker. Close lid and wait for 5 minutes or until your waffle maker alerts you that it’s done. Remove cooked waffle and repeat procedure with remaining batter.
  4. In a pan or griddle, fry eggs to top on your waffle.
  5. For every two waffles, top it with one fried egg. Serve.

 

Falafel Waffles

 

Falafel and waffles? Yes, they seem delicious! Take falafel to a whole new level in the form of waffles! The crispy interior and warm interior of the falafel waffles would surely satisfy your unique food cravings.

Ingredients:

  • 10 oz. falafel mix
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 cup fresh parsley leaves
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 pint mixed cherry tomatoes, cut in halves
  • 1 seedless English cucumber, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 3 oz. feta cheese, cut into small cubes
  • Dill leaves for garnish

Procedure:

  1. Combine falafel mix, ¼ cup olive oil and egg, and water (refer to falafel mix label for exact measurement) in a large bowl. Meanwhile, soak onion in cold water and preheat waffle maker.
  2. Pulse cilantro, parsley lemon juice, vinegar and pepper in a food processor until finely chopped. Occasionally scrape down the sides of the bowl while it’s pulsing. While the machine is running, add remaining olive oil. Transfer half of the vinaigrette to a large bowl and toss with the tomatoes, cucumber, and feta cheese. Reserve the remaining vinaigrette.
  3. Grease the waffle maker and add a tablespoon of falafel mix to the waffle maker. Close the waffle maker lid and cook waffles for 5 minutes or until crisp and golden brown. Repeat the procedure with the remaining falafel mix.
  4. Drain onion to add to the salad vinaigrette. Drizzle the falafel waffle with the reserved vinaigrette and serve with the salad.

 

Waffle Omelet (Womelet)

Mash up a yummy and savory creation with your breakfast staples – waffles and omelet, and combine it with cooked potatoes, Gruyere cheese, and green onions.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup cooked potatoes, chopped
  • ½ cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Procedure:

  1. Preheat waffle maker.
  2. Whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add eggs and oil then mix to combine. Fold in Gruyere cheese, potatoes, peppers and green onions.
  3. Spray waffle maker with cooking spray. Add batter and cook 5 minutes until golden brown. Repeat with the remaining batter.

 

Red Velvet Waffles with Cream Cheese Syrup

If your waffle maker can make heart-shaped waffles, red velvet is the best flavor to cook up in it. But even though it’s not, your taste buds will want for more.

Ingredients:

For waffles:

  • ½ cup + 3 tablespoons flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon red food coloring

For cream cheese syrup:

  • ¾ cup cream or half and half
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Procedure:

  1. Combine the dry ingredients for waffles (those six ones listed above from flour to salt) in a bowl and whisk.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and mix until fully combined. Allow batter to rest for 20 minutes.
  3. Combine cream cheese, cream and sugar in a pot. Heat until the cream cheese has melted. As you wait for it to melt, whisk to remove any lumps.
  4. Continue to mix until it becomes a thick syrup, remove from heat and mix in the vanilla.
  5. Grease the waffle maker with cooking spray. Add batter and close waffle maker lid. Cook up for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve waffles with cream cheese syrup on top.

 

Waffle Donut (Wonut)

If you’re craving for both waffles and donuts but don’t want to consume too much carbs, combine them into one decadent wonder. The great thing is you can add and control what and how much sweetness you want to put into it! In this recipe, we’re adding chocolate glaze and cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients:

For waffles:

  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For chocolate glaze:

  • 4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoon light corn syrup

For cinnamon sugar:

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Procedure:

  1. Preheat waffle maker.
  2. Whisk dry waffle ingredients such as flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk sugar, milk, eggs, butter and vanilla. Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. Stir until combined (small lumps are fine).
  3. Grease waffle maker and 1/3 cup batter. Close waffle maker and cook until waffles are golden brown.
  4. To make the chocolate glaze, heat heavy cream in a saucepan until hot. Pour over chocolate chips and let it stand for 5 minutes. Stir until smooth. Whisk in vanilla extract and corn syrup. Drizzle over or dip the waffles right away. Let it cool at room temperature for at least one hour before serving. Sprinkle with chopped nuts or colorful sprinkles if you like.
  5. To make cinnamon sugar, shake together sugar and ground cinnamon in a brown paper bag. Toss waffles with mixture. Let it cool at room temperature for at least one hour before serving.

 

Chocolate Bacon Waffles

Bacon and chocolate might be a weird combination for some, but it makes a great explosion of sweet and savory flavors.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups waffle mix
  • 1 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 8 oz. bacon, crispy fried
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Procedure:

  1. Cook bacon strips in skillet over medium heat until crispy. Once bacon strips are cooked, drain them into a plate with few paper towels.
  2. Stir the batter ingredients listed above, from waffle mix to vegetable oil until well combined.
  3. Preheat waffle maker and grease with cooking spray. Add a thin layer of batter to the waffle maker and top with strips of bacon and chocolate chips.
  4. Add another layer of batter on top. Cook waffle for five minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Serve waffles immediately and top them with maple syrup and extra chocolate chips.
